Prasad Bidapa’s tipsy son held for assaulting policemen in Bangalore

Fashion consultant Prasad Bidapa’s nineteen-year-old son Adam Bidapa has been arrested on charges of assaulting three policemen at a nightclub in Bangalore during the early hours of Friday.

A case has also been booked against Prasad’s wife Judith Bidapa for misbehaving with the police when she came to the police station on learning about her son’s arrest.

Police said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Bangalore G B Chebbi during his night rounds noticed a large number of cars parked outside Spinn, a nightclub on Residency Road in Bangalore, well past midnight. Immediately, Chebbi sent two police officials along with his armed personal guard to close down the nightclub, which was violating the closure deadline.

All bars and pubs in Bangalore should be closed down by 11.30 pm as per the rules. But, Spinn, which was holding a three-day beer festival, had remained open beyond the deadline.

When the policemen were trying to clear the nightclub of all the customers, Adam Bidapa, who was reportedly in an inebriated state, let loose a verbal tirade at the policemen before assaulting them.

“He got wild and began kicking and assaulting the policemen. We had to arrest him for assaulting a government servant on duty”, Chebbi told reporters. As soon as Adam saw the police officers enter the nightclub, he is believed to have turned wild. “Why have you come here to spoil the party?”, a police officer said quoting Adam.

After Adam was bundled into a police vehicle and taken away, Pradad Bidapa and his wife Judith Bidapa arrived at Ashok Nagar police station. The police station witnessed high drama with Judith shouting at the policemen and pushing them around to secure her son’s release. Judith reportedly used the choicest of words to abuse Chebbi and his team of officers.

In a fit of rage, Judith is reported to have pushed Chebbi, who was standing near the stairs. Chebbi lost his balance and fell down, hurting his little finger on the right hand. Assistant Commissioner of Police B B Ashok Kumar, who was witness to the entire drama, told reporters that Judith’s wife even threatened Chebbi with dire consequences if her son was not released.

The police conducted a medical test on Adam to ascertain his level of intoxication. The preliminary report confirmed that Adam was under a high level of intoxication. He was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate at his residence and remanded to judicial custody. He was taken to Parappana Agrahara jail.

Meanwhile, Prasad Bidapa convened a press conference and threatened to move the court against his son’s “illegal” detention by the police. Accusing the police of violating human rights, Bidapa said he would not hesitate to even move the international courts in the regard. “I am prepared to go to any level to expose the human rights violations of the police”, he said.
