Clash between Bihari and Kashmiri students near Bangalore
Traffic on the busy Bangalore Mysore highway was held up for more than two hours Monday night as students from Kashmir and Bihar clashed with each other over accommodation in the hostel of engineering college located at Ramanagaram on the outskirts of Bangalore.
Police said Kashmiri students and Bihari students quarreled over occupying a vacant room in the hostel of Ghousia Engineering college on Monday evening, leading to fist-fights in the campus, which later spilled on the adjoining highway.
More than two hundred students fought on the highway holding up the traffic, according to a senior police official. When the situation went out of control, the Principal of the College informed the police. A contingent of police rushed to spot and resorted to caning to disperse the unruly students.
About eight students were injured in the police action. A total of 25 students had been rounded up for their involvement in the clashes. The highway was later cleared for traffic.
