Telgi to be produced in Bangalore court on June 2

The multi billion rupee stamp paper scam mastermind Abdul Karim Telgi, who is presently lodged in Yerawada prison in Pune, is expected to be shifted to Bangalore and produced before the special court here on June 2.

Though Telgi was scheduled to be produced before the special court in Bangalore on May 15, the Yerawada prison officials sent a letter to the special judge hearing the case citing their inability to produce the Telgi due to non-availability of sufficient policemen to shift him to Bangalore safely.

In view of Yerawada prison officials request for grant of more time, the special court adjourned the hearing to June 2.

The special court in Bangalore was hearing the cases relating to the multi-billion rupee stamp paper scandal through video conferencing facility installed at Yerawada prison so far, the authorities had decided to shift him to Bangalore after the video conferencing facility failed.

Telgi’s lawyers told reporters that the video conferencing facility installed at Yerawada prison has been disrupted after the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the service provider, disconnected ISDN line for video conferencing for non payment of Rs 400,000 service charges.

In view of the connectivity problems, at Yerawada jail the special court in Bangalore directed the Pune prison authorities to physically produce Telgi before it to proceed with the cases that have reached final stages.

The Yerawada prison authorities had already intimated the CBI and Parappana Agrahara Centrail Jail in Bangalore that they are unable to shift Telgi until May 21 in view of the shortage of escort policemen.
