JD (S) likely to support to UPA

JD (S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has indicated his party’s readiness to extend support to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA)

Though the 39-member Samajwadi Party has assured to prop up the UPA over the nuclear deal after the Left parties withdrew its support, the two members of JD (S) could play a significant role in helping the Manmohan Singh Government cross the halfway mark in the Lok Sabha.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Gowda spewed venom on the BJP, which had begun poaching on JD (S) MLAs. He emphasized the need for secular parties to come together and said he would be willing to go with the Congress to defeat the communal parties.

Though the provocation for Gowda to move closer to the Congress may be the BJP’s “immoral politics” to lure legislators from other parties, the UPA will be more than eager to accept Gowda’s support if a trust vote is necessary for the continuance of Manmohan Singh Government.
