Mob goes berserk after bus crushes 3-year-old

Traffic on the busy Bangalore-Mysore road was blocked by an angry mob after a bus belonging to the state-run Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) crushed a three-year-old girl on Thursday.

When the killer BMTC bus knocked down a two-wheeler driven by Rashid Jamal on the outskirts of Bangalore, the girl Fathima, who was sitting on her mother’s lap fell on the road, came under the wheels of the bus and died instantly. The family was returning home after shopping at the City Market when the tragedy took place.

Soon a crowd gathered at the accident spot and began stoning the bus even as the bus driver and conducted managed to flee. The irate mob brought vehicular movement on the road to a halt in protest against the negligence of the BMTC bus driver.

The police had to rush additional personnel to the troubled spot and cane the mob, which had started to resort to violence. Later, the driver was arrested and produced before the court.

The deceased girl Fathima happened to be the adopted child of Rashid Jamal, an employee with a private firm, and his wife, who did not have any children. “After going without any children for eight years, the traumatized couple opted to adopt a girl child. But, fate has snatched even her away from them”, a relative of the couple told reporters.
