Hi-speed rail link to Bangalore International airport

Karnataka Government is planning a hi-speed rail link between Bangalore and the recently opened Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli about 35 kms away.

After reviewing various infrastructure projects, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said rail link, which is expected to cover the distance between the City and the international airport in 25 minutes, will cost Rs 36 billion.

He said the hi-speed rail link will have check in counters at two or three places in the City including Cubbon Road, which in the heart of the City. The rail link will be established under public-private-partnership model, he added.

The State Government’s approval for a hi-speed rail link comes after the Government came under widespread criticism for the poor road connectivity to the international airport. Passengers had to spend around three to four hours to reach the newly built international airport from different parts of Bangalore in view of the choked roads.
The industry in general and the people in particular had strongly opposed the closure of the HAL airport till the Government resolved the connectivity problem
