Kidnapped infant found, re-united with mother

Seema Kausar of Bangalore had all but given up hopes of finding her baby girl, who was kidnapped within a week after she was born in a Greater Bangalore City Corporation Maternity Home in March this year.

But, when she went to Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Bangalore three days ago to see her uncle, who had been admitted to the hospital, she spotted a woman selling garments near the hospital and was immediately reminded of her suspicious movement in Greater Bangalore City Corporation Maternity Home before her baby went missing.

She immediately rushed to the police and lodged a complaint. The police took the woman into custody and quizzed her. The garment seller Mujeeba spilled the beans and led the police to Dilshad, the burkha clad woman, who had disappeared with Kausar’s baby.

With the help of the police, an overjoyed Kausar was reunited with her baby lost three and a half months ago. The baby was girl was living with Dilshad at her residence in Kolegeri slum in Jakkur Layout in Bangalore.

Kausar, wife of Syed Salman, had delivered a baby girl at the Greater Bangalore City Corporation on March 1 this year. But, Dilshad had gained entry into the hospital ward by stealth told Kausar that she had come to take the baby to its grandmother, who was standing outside the ward. When Kausar handed over the baby, Dilshad simply walked out of the hospital with the infant.

Kausar and her husband Syed Salman had lodged a complaint with the police and all efforts to trace the infant went in vain. It was only by a quirk of fate that the mother was reunited with her baby.
Dilshad, who has admitted to kidnapping the baby, told the police that she had planned the abduction. She was staying with the baby at her residence in Jakkur layout by claiming that she had been given the custody of the infant by the child’s relatives after its mother died in the hospital.
