Yeddyurappa decides to take a day off every week

With hectic campaigning for the elections and unending parleys during Government formation taking a toll on his health, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has decided to take a day off every week on Sundays.

“Though I will be in Bangalore on Sundays, I will avoid meeting people and holding meetings. I hope people understand that I too need some rest. It will help me plan for the week ahead”, Yeddyurappa told reporters on Sunday, his first rest day in months.

On his weekly off, Yeddyurappa went to an undisclosed location for the first time in several months to have lunch with his family including his children and grand children.

His concerned family members have welcomed Yeddyurappa’s decision to take a weekly off. “He hardly sleeps. On certain days, it is difficult for him to even sleep for a few hours and hence this compulsory rest”, said a BJP leader close to his family.

However, it is another matter that the Chief Minister may have to receive important phone calls and attend to emergency work.
Yeddyurappa’s decision to take a weekly off has reminded people of the state the weekly off former Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde used to avail of. Hegde was not only taking a day off, he used to observe “mouna vrath” or remaining silent for the entire day. But, unlike Hegde, Yeddyurappa will be taking a day’s rest to be with his family.
