Telgi trial resumes in Bangalore

The alleged kingpin in the multi-billion rupee fake stamp paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi, who has been shifted to Bangalore Central jail, appeared before the special court here yesterday in connection with the cases booked against him in Karnataka.

Telgi, who was produced before the special court through video conferencing facilities inside the jail premises, fielded queries posed by the special judge, his lawyers said. The proceedings were held in-camera and the judge posted the next hearing to June 23.

It may be mentioned here that Telgi was shifted to Bangalore after the video-conferencing facility at Yerawada prison in Pune broke down. Telgi arrived in Bangalore on Sunday morning by train amid tight security.

Soon after his arrival in Bangalore, he was shifted to the central jail at Parappana Agrahara on the outskirts of the City, where he was put into a barricaded room.

Telgi will be facing trial in cases booked by Upparpet and Madiwala police stations in Bangalore through the video conferencing facility in Bangalore Central jail.
