Second Saturday holiday to be cancelled in Karnataka

The newly BJP Government in Karnataka is planning to cancel the holiday given to Government offices and staff on second Saturdays of every month.

“No more holiday for Government officials on second Saturdays. They have to work hard if they have to rise to my expectations”, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said during the course of his reply to the felicitation accorded to him by the BJP unit of his native Shimoga in Karnataka on Friday.

Yeddyurappa’s threat to cancel the holiday on second Saturdays of every month is in stark contrast to the proposal mooted by the previous dispensation to declare a five-day week for Government offices to tackle the traffic congestion on the roads in Bangalore witnessed every Saturday.

The previous Government had suggested that the work hours be rescheduled to ensure that the officials put in two hours of additional work every day of the week in return for a compensatory holiday on Saturday.
But now, it appears that the Government officials may even have to forego their holiday on second Saturdays of every month.
